Royer Greaves School for Blind

Position Description:
Responsible for planning and overseeing the accounting operations of the company. Including enhancing the accuracy of the company reported financial results complying with generally accepted accounting principles.

Specific Requirements and Preferences:

  • Manage all aspects of accounting: billing, financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, tax compliance, revenue recognition and various special analyses.
  • Maintain documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Keep an organized filing system of all accounts, statements, transactions, payments, and debts
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal laws regarding finances, tax filing and reporting
  • Prepare quarterly/annual financial reports
  • Report monthly to the Finance Committee and quarterly to the Board of Directors on the cash position and financial status of the organization
  • Review and journalize monthly/quarterly investment statements
  • Review and journalize quarterly unemployment compensation statements (First Non Profit)
  • Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation schedules
  • Prepare other journal entries as needed
  • Reconcile all monthly bank statements
  • Reconcile all balance sheet accounts to supporting documentation
  • Monitor cash and funding balances
  • Review accounts receivable and initiate collections on outstanding accounts
  • Approve weekly cash requirements report
  • Audit administration petty cash on a semi-annual basis
  • Coordinate and oversee the annual financial audit process
  • File the PDE annual audit by November 1st.Develop the annual budget
  • Review and provide information requested by OID departments of requesting counties for annual contract renewal.
  • Prepare annual ESY contracts for participating school districts
  • Complete annual insurance application and requested information for renewal
  • File annual Unclaimed Property Report for Pennsylvania
  • File annual 5500’s
  • Prepare and submit documentation to our accounting firm for annual 990 report
  • Prepare annual Room & Board contracts for residential individuals and modify during the year as required.
  • Process monthly R&B payments for individuals for whom RG is rep payee
  • Open/Maintain/Oversee PA ABLE accounts for individuals for whom RG is rep payee 


  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration with emphasis in accounting.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or MBA required.
  • Excellent computer skills; including experience in accounting software, payroll systems and Microsoft Office Suite.


  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Pennsylvania State Police background check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance, and Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse


  • Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets periodicals, professional journals, legal documents, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, colleagues, and the general community.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries from staff or community members


  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with, staff, and the administrator
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all Board policies
  • Ability to respond to and solve several problems, simultaneously
  • Meet deadlines with specific timeframe, interacting with administrator and staff
  • Ability to solve practical problems, takes initiative, and deal with a variety of situations related to position


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, and walk.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee is responsible for safety, well-being, and work output of others


  • The noise leveling the work environment is usually mild to moderate depending on the specific site
  • The work environment varies according to (i.e. alternative education site, regular public school buildings, administrative offices)

Terms of Employment: 

  • Salaried Position, 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
