Position Description:
As a leading Human Services organization and Top 10 employer locally, we are seeking a full time Controller to oversee financial and accounting activities. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and has a team of direct reports.

Responsibilities for Controller:

  • Responsible for external financial audit of Barber related entities.
  • Responsible for corporate tax returns, as well as charitable registrations for Barber related entities
  • Responsible for producing monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements of Barber related entities in accordance with GAAP
  • Prepares monthly variance analysis as part of the review process
  • Reports to certain Barber Boards
  • Oversees Accounting, Program Accounting, Accounts Payable and Payroll
  • Works closely with banks related to disbursements and borrowings
  • Completes various financial reports for external reporting requirements based on financial statements
  • Assist with annual budget process
  • Maintain appropriate financial policies, procedures, internal controls, and reporting systems to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Protects financial assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial reports, and advising management on needed actions.
  • Mentor and coach staff in routine tasks as well as developing their management skills.

Specific Requirements and Preferences:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, CPA designation required, MBA a plus. 
  • Prior experience in public accounting is highly valued. 
  • Knowledge of financial accounting software to support financial reporting in an efficient manner. 
  • Eight to ten years of experience in financial management with increasing responsibilities for multi-faceted direction and planning. 
  • Thorough understanding of GAAP reporting. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as analytical and organizational skills.
