Meet Stan



This photo of Stan Searle was the winner of PAR's 2009 Everyday Images Award. Stan is shown here with fellow members of the Sons of American Legion (S.A.L) post 933.



Stan is an honorary member with a card that welcomes him to all of the Legion’s functions. He participates in memorial services and parades, and volunteers in various building projects. He is one of the guys. He is very proud of his involvement with this group. Initially, a couple of ALTEC’s staff members invited Stan out on a Friday night, and from there his relationship to the Sons of American Legion Post 933 just grew.

PAR's Everyday Images Award showcases an image of someone with intellectual disabilities or autism that reflects the joy of family, the friendships and the bonds that form between people with and without disabilities, and the importance and benefits of community inclusion. The photo of Mr. Searle and his friends in the S.A.L., taken in Hatfield, Pennsylvania, portrays these bonds.
