New CDC Public Health Preparedness Report: Mobilizing State by State -- VISIT |

The Center for Disease Control’s (CDC's) Coordinating Office for Terrorism Preparedness and Emergency Response (COTPER) released its inaugural report on public health emergency preparedness.
The report, Public Health Preparedness: Mobilizing State by State, highlights the progress that has been made in state and local preparedness and response, identifies preparedness challenges facing public health departments, and outlines CDC’s efforts to address those challenges.

Governor Rendell last week issued a press release detailing his proposal to lessen the impact of future emergencies and natural disasters in Pennsylvania. His proposal includes the merger of state emergency and security agencies.

Federal, State Officials Encourage Flu Readiness -- VISIT |
|
This month, federal and state officials are encouraging everyone to get vaccinated against influenza, especially individuals at risk like healthcare workers and persons living in nursing homes and long-term care facilities.
OSHA recently issued their latest addition to an ongoing series of safety and health fact sheets, entitled “Seasonal Influenza Vaccination-Important Protection for Healthcare Workers.” The document discusses the importance of employers encouraging influenza vaccination for their healthcare employees to help reduce the risk of contracting influenza and spreading the illness to their families and patients. State Issues Pandemic Preparedness Information Letter -- VISIT |
|
The Office of Developmental Programs issued a letter on October 1 related to pandemic preparedness. The letter states that although there is no immediate threat of an influenza pandemic or widespread flu epidemic in Pennsylvania, state and local government officials are taking a positive approach through various resources for preparation should such a pandemic ever occur.

State Issues Pandemic Preparedness Information Pamphlet -- VISIT |
|
On October 1, the Office of Developmental Programs issued a pamphlet related to pandemic preparedness. The pamphlet contains information intended to assist everyone in preparing for response to a pandemic situation.
